Peter Lee Bursary 2025

Peter Lee application form 2025

** DEADLINE Extended to September 7th **

Background to the Awards

Peter Lee was chair of SEAOA from 2011 until his death in early 2024.  He was an inspiring athletics official, happy to share his experience and knowledge with others, and very keen to develop new talent. To mark his contribution to the SEAOA and the wider athletics community it is proposed to continue to make grants to a number of newer officials in 2025 to help them obtain the equipment and experience they need to be able to progress to a higher level of qualification.

These awards will be given to level 1 or 2 officials that are keen to progress towards higher level qualifications. It is designed to help them overcome some of the challenges that they may be facing in obtaining experience and/ or equipping themselves for the role. There will be six awards available each year aiming to cover the six disciplines namely endurance, field, photo finish, starters, timekeepers, and track.

The award will comprise of 2 parts.  Firstly the provision of a grant towards acquiring the equipment necessary to progress in their discipline.  This is to the value of £80.  The second part of the award is to facilitate the individual to shadow a higher level official (expected to be an SEAOA member who has volunteered to be involved) at a regional/ national competition to gain experience.  Expenses incurred for this portion will vary but may include travel costs and (if required) an overnight stay.  The committee intends that financial reporting by the recipient should be light touch.  They will not be required to submit receipts for the equipment grant part of the award.  They will be expected to provide a short report for the following year’s AGM outlining how they have used the award.  This will also be used in the Association’s social media streams
