Technical Notice from TAG Re 700g Javelin

TR38.10 of the WA/UKA rule book. Please find below an important update from World Athletics on the Men’s U18 javelin.

According to TR38.10, new specifications of the 700g javelin come in force from 1 April 2025. However, several Member Federations have raised concerns regarding the global availability of the new javelins and have declared not to be ready for staging competitions with the new javelins as of this date. At the same time, other Member Federations have indicated to be already fully equipped with the new javelins.

In the interest of the athletes and to ensure that competitions may be staged globally, a ‘grace period’ of 7 months from 1 April 2025 to 31 October 2025 will be introduced in which both types of 700 javelins (i.e. the javelins compliant with the current specifications and the javelins compliant with the new specifications) may be used, including within the same competition. During this period, there is no need to indicate in the results lists which type of javelin has been used. As of 1 November 2025, only the new javelin may be used in competition.

As a consequence, the new list of “World Best Performances” for the new javelin will only start as of 1 November 2025 and will only consider performances achieved as of this date.
