Pole Vault TR28.1 clarification
Guidance from Field Working Group relating to Pole Vault and timing.
Now that the rule states "Once the time for the trial has started, no further change in the position of the crossbar is allowed."; WA have now added guidance to officials (printed in green text in the Technical Rules) with the following clarification:
"In the case of consecutive trials, the judges should check with the athlete if they wish to change the position of the crossbar before the time for their next trial begins."
Our keynote speaker, Chris Cohen, had highlighted this change during the recent conference and goes on to say "Obviously, it is good officiating to occasionally remind young athletes of the position so they have time to ask for a change before you start the clock; but it is now clear that we should approach the athlete directly if they have consecutive attempts before starting the clock. This shouldn't take too long if, for example, the athlete wants to talk to their coach, but they should be given that opportunity."
